2019 New Years Resolutions

By Libby Banks, The Law Office of Libby Banks

The Most Important New Year’s Resolution

The new year is here, and along with it, a fresh start. You may have promised yourself to exercise regularly, eat right, spend more time with the kids, or have family time every weekend. Why do you have these particular goals? If you are like me, behind almost every goal I have is the desire to make sure I am taking care of my family.

One of the most important resolutions you can make this year is to take care of your family by doing your estate planning. Putting a Will or Trust and powers of attorney in place gives you the peace of mind that if something happens to you, you’ve done what you could to make sure the family can handle things.

For some, it’s hard to know where to begin! Here are some thoughts on how to get started with your estate planning. I hope they help you take steps toward a proper estate plan.

  • Get educated about estate planning!  If you don’t know how to get started or what you might need, it’s easy to put off the estate planning. One easy way to get more information is to attend one of my Estate Planning Mythbusters Seminars. These are educational and informational, designed to give you an overview on the why and how of estate planning.
  • Take advantage of a free consultation.   I offer a free initial consultation to let you ask questions, learn more and see if I am a good fit for you. In this one-hour meeting, we talk about why it’s important to plan. We discuss your specific situation and what type of plan would be best for you. We talk about the different parts of the estate plan and how they work to take care of your family. At the end of the meeting, you should have a clear idea of what you need and how much it will cost.
  • Get a complimentary review of your existing plan. Change is inevitable, and many things may have changed since you last updated your plan. Have your children become adults? Are your trustees or executors now too old to serve? Have the laws changed? Have your assets changed? Our free review will go over all these questions and make sure your plan still serves your needs.

As always, we are here to help! To find out about our seminars visit our website at www.libbybanks.com. To make an appointment for an initial estate planning consultation or estate plan review, call us at 602-375-6752, email libby@libbybanks.com or check our website.
